The Urge to Fly 

The mountains called and we packed it up 

The Airstream, the bikes and two scruffy pups 

Texas can boil without us for awhile 

I've got Some Colorado candy and a goofy smile 

Those mountains loom a mile high 

I know you are and so am I 

And ain't it grand to feel so chill 

To breathe the air and just be still 

And marvel at mama nature's art 

She paints healing on my battered heart 

Where the earth truly kisses the sky 

Sitting with my love, the dogs, and I 

                     I feel urge to fly

I've been participating in 100 Days of Songwriting, and my goal was to just do a tiny bit of music something every day. We've been on the road, and I spaced out for a few days. I needed it. Today, I did a small freewrite about whatever popped into my head. Sometimes you just write about where you are, right now. It's cathartic. I find it fascinating that sometimes when I sit down to do a freewrite that things come out in rhyme. It doesn't always happen, I just go where the words take me. I love that place. Is this amazing? Nah. Did it feel amazing to flow it out? Yes, yes it did. Who needs the herb when you've got the words? Oh, dear goodness. Sometimes I just can't stop. Yeah, writing puts me in a playful and happy place.
